Introduction
Sudoku is a logic puzzle that has captivated millions worldwide. No math required—just pure deductive reasoning.
What is Sudoku?
Sudoku is played on a 9×9 grid divided into nine 3×3 boxes. Some cells contain numbers (clues), and your goal is to fill the remaining cells following three simple rules:
- Every row must contain digits 1-9 exactly once
- Every column must contain digits 1-9 exactly once
- Every 3×3 box must contain digits 1-9 exactly once
That's it. Simple rules, infinite depth.
A Brief History
The modern Sudoku puzzle emerged in 1979, created by American architect Howard Garns under the name "Number Place." It gained massive popularity in Japan during the 1980s, where it received its current name—"Sudoku" (数独), meaning "single number."
The puzzle exploded globally in 2004-2005 when newspapers worldwide began publishing daily Sudoku. Today, it remains one of the most popular logic puzzles ever created.
